The 1st stage of this walk is 2.5km up to Coire Fhionn Lochain, a lovely little loch nestling in a spectacular bowl, a classic glacial feature. Here we have a choice: up the steep, eroded right-hand spur or a more gentle route to the left heading for the saddle below Meall Bhig, both ways are 1.5km. Once up on the top you have before you a whaleback ridge reminiscent of a Grampian mountain. The terrain, vegetation & location give the impression of greater altitude. The 4km along to Beinn Bharrain, the highest point at 721m, over Beinn Bhreac and Mullach Buidhe are relatively easy and the views east to the rest of the Arran mountains and west to Kintyre and Jura are wonderful. You might see an eagle hunting over Loch Tanna or even a Ptarmigan which have frequented these hills over the years. This walk will take about 7 hours returning the same way.
