Goatfell and North Goatfell Mountain Walk Image
Goatfell and North Goatfell Mountain Walk

Distance: 10km
Ascent: 770m
Walk duration: 7hrs
Technical Rating: Moderate
Blister Rating: 3

Walk description:

To add a little twist to an old favourite, Goatfell's little sister summit of North Goatfell (818m) is included in this walk.Setting out from High Corrie, the path winds through woodland and then out onto the open moorland of Coire Lan, hunting territory of hen harriers and grazing ground for red deer. Flattish sections in-between steep climbs allow you to catch your breath, as the views expand out across the Firth of Clyde. The greatest uphill push is the climb from Coire Lan to the peak of North Goatfell, rewarded with incredible 360 degree views and usually greeted by the croaking calls of the resident ravens. Now the hard work is done, it's time to enjoy the rocky Stacach ridge leading south towards Goatfell. The trickier sections are easily by-passed for a final uphill scramble towards the Goatfell summit. Should the weather be kind, the scenery now unfolding extends to the islands of Holy Isle and Ailsa Craig in the south and Kintyre and Jura in the west. On very clear days, the Antrim coast can be glimpsed. Descending down the main path along the east shoulder, the end of the walk, Brodick Country Park, comes into sight. Ending as you started, in woodland, the path eventually turn s into track to emerge at Cladach
