What to expect on this trip
An Introduction to Kayaking Weekend with a paddle around two stunning islands off the coast of Arran. The Holy Isle is the guardian of Lamlash Bay and offers excellent sheltered waters for beginners. We will spend the day learning the skills to allow us to circumnavigate the Holy Isle, stopping for lunch on its remote east coast. On Day 2 we will head to the Isle of Pladda with its abundance of seals and great views to the Irish Sea, Galloway and the Kintyre Peninsula.
Lamlash Bay & Holy Isle
The touring element of this trip allows us to constantly explore new coastlines and kayaks allow you to get close to the shoreline where you will be able to see wildlife and the seabed at close proximity. Part of Lamlash Bay has recently been officially designated a marine reserve with a 'No Take Zone'. All fishing has been banned in this zone, which will allow natural regeneration of the seabed. This is the first marine reserve of its kind in Scotland and is supported by the community of Arran and fishermen alike.
Lamlash Bay is protected by the Holy Isle, rising dramatically, 1000 feet from the sea. It is populated with wild Eriskay ponies, Saanen goats and Soay sheep and a huge variety of seabirds. For more information on the wildlife of the Holy Isle click here.
Your guide will answer any questions you may have about the area and the wildlife.
We are committed to the WiSe wildlife watching code of conduct, which aims to respect the wild nature of animals and not to cause undue disturbance.
